Polki is not "cheap diamond". Polki is the raw, uncut, natural diamond in its original crystal form — the diamond variety in circulation before modern brilliant-cut faceting was invented. Every Polki stone is set on a silver-leaf foil that produces the characteristic soft milky glow. Rendering Polki correctly is the hardest job in Indian jewellery visualisation, and generic AI tools fail it consistently.
Why Polki renders are hard
The visual signature of Polki is diffuse glow, not sparkle. Modern brilliant-cut diamond has 57-58 facets that split incoming light into narrow rainbow beams — you see sharp, discrete flashes. Polki has irregular natural crystal faces plus a silver foil backing that reflects light back through the stone — you see a soft, milky luminance across the entire stone surface.
Generic image models render every diamond as brilliant-cut sparkle because that's what dominates their Western-jewellery training data. Facetra explicitly distinguishes the two — describe a stone as "Polki" and you get diffuse glow, describe it as "round brilliant" and you get faceted sparkle.
The Polki + Kundan combination
In Indian bridal jewellery, Polki is almost always Kundan-set — the goldsmith uses hand pressure (not heat) to press a foil of 24kt pure gold around the base of the stone, forming a raised scalloped border. A single piece can therefore be:
